Mike Girard has been pushing the east coast downhill / longboard scene for more than a decade now, both as a rep of some of my favorite brands, and as a rider of the gear that he reps.
Here's what Mike has to say about CM8:
Mike has been a common thread through some of my all time favorite skate events and I don't expect CM8 to disappoint this time around. If you ride four wheels (down hills or otherwise) you owe it to yourself to get to one of them sooner than later.
We found a selection of Trips in the low $300s (West Coast) to low $100s (East Coast) to get you there in time for CM8

Skip Straight to the Flight Deals...
- East Coast (USA) from $103 RT Flight
- West Coast (USA) from $313 RT Flight
- Canada from $196 RT Flight
- Puerto Rico from $313 RT Flight
If you are chasing IDF Points or just interested in Central Mass, you should absolutely be considering the Killington Downhill Throwdown. Found some even more insane deals to get you there in time... and under budget.
CM8 = August 4th - 6th 2017 in Harvard, Mass
Here's a Central Mass 6 cut from the guys at Original to give you an idea of the flavor:
Central Mass has reasonable entry fees, great on hill features and a race hill that's perfect to have fun on regardless of your skill level. That works out to a cheap weekend for anyone driving distance from Harvard, Mass and is high on my list of events worth flying to.
As far as getting there from across the country, That is exactly the goal of this post. All flights / prices are Round Trip.
There are some killer deals floating around and I will attempt to update them weekly. Most of these deals fly into Boston which is generally $100 cheaper than the alternatives: BDL / ALB / BTV etc (though I am watching those too).
$104 RT Flight Atlanta -> Boston (Non-Stop) *Still Alive 7/10
Another beat the heat trip. It can be hot in Mass during the summer, but odds are near 100% that it's going to be cooler than it is in Atlanta this August.
You can now get to Central Mass for $104, assuming you don't mind Spirit and aren't checking bags:
Alternately this $125 RT is one of my favorite east coast deals AND it's on JetBlue AND it's direct non-stop both ways.
$182 RT Washington DC (DCA) -> Hartford, CT *Increase 7/10 Was $129
At $129 flying Certainly beats driving it. After todays price increase to $182 I am not so sure.
JetBlue hooks up the bags much cheaper than Spirit and the other discount carriers so this price is actually better than it looks.
This one flys into Hartford and replaces the previous DCA fare I found into Boston.
$100 RT Baltimore (BWI) -> Boston *Price Drop 7/1
I don't love Spirit, and they do charge extra for both checked and carry-on bags (which includes boards) but at $100 I figured it deserved to be on the list anyway.
Here's Byron at CM a few years back:
$320 RT Portland (PDX) -> Boston *New 7/10
New one today. After a month of sitting in the 400s, Portland is in WELL below the average price you can expect to pay on any given day.
If you are coming, book this today I don't expect it to stick around:
$317 RT Los Angeles (LAX) -> Boston (Non-Stop) *Price Drop 7/10
Virgin America hooking it up out of LAX. Non-Stop for $317 Round Trip. Seriously hard to beat that with 3 weeks until the event goes down:
Getting in on the 4th leaves you plenty of time to race, you just miss out on the first practice day.
If you want to get there stress free for the WHOLE event Long Beach is another solid option although these trips have a stop:
Congrats to anyone who bought the 350ish Non-Stop out of Santa Ana, that one is no-more as of 7/1.
If you decide not to come, you should seriously consider these L.A. options.
Here's a vid from Aero Media to encourage you to make the trip, regardless of price:
$313 RT Flight Bay Area -> Boston *Price Drop 7/10
SJC deal ($342) from last week is dead. On the bright side, the Bay Area just lucked into todays best deal out of SFO:
$328 RT Flight San Diego -> Boston *Price Drop 7/10
Get to the east coast with a minor stop on the way there and the way back.
Solid San Diego price drop from $372 down to $328 RT. Jump on it.
$198 RT Flight Las Vegas -> Boston (Non-Stop) *Price Drop 7/10
If you find yourself at home playing in the ditches around Vegas this summer, get out of the desert for a few days and see the east coast while you are at it. This is another one on Spirit (watch the bag fees etc) but the price is right and it's non-stop.
$415 RT Flight Seattle -> Boston *Updated 7/10 was $367
Seattle dropped back down to a pretty reasonable $415. For a last minute coast to coast flight I actually think thats a pretty solid deal, not as good as the $367 last month, but we are less than 4 weeks away.
$246 RT Toronto, Canada (YYZ) -> Boston (Non-Stop) *Updated 7/10 was $199
This one jumped up $40, still a decent price last minute, just not as awesome anymore.
1.5 hour flight is WAY better than an 8 hour drive. This one is on Air Canada.
$241 RT Flight Ottawa, Canada (YOW) -> Boston *Update 7/10 was $227
Not earth shattering but solid fares to save you a few bucks and a long (6+ hour drive to Harvard Mass). That said there is nothing direct which hurts on a relatively short flight.
Stop is in Toronto.
$568 RT Flight Montreal, Canada (YUL) -> Boston *Dead 7/10 was $236
Leaving the info (for anyone who didn't book yet). Cheapest flight is now $569. Serious bummer on this one.
Similar to the Ottawa deal, Montreal riders are going to have to go west to get east. Both deals rely on a killer Toronto - Boston rate to build the prices we get here. No Non-stops (with reasonable prices).
Single Stop each way is in Toronto.
$240 RT Flight Quebec City, Canada (YQB) -> Boston *New 7/10
This is another one with a relatively short flight made longer by a single stop (in Toronto), but $240 is the cheapest it has been in weeks so I figured I would post it up.
$473 RT Flight Calgary, Canada (YYC) -> Boston *Update 7/10 was $359
One stop and a reasonably long connection, but it's hard to get back east from Central Canada on the cheap these days. $359 was pretty great for those that got in on that.
$414 RT Flight Vancouver, Canada (YVR) -> Boston *New 7/10
This one is really just if you are desperate to get here with no other hope given that it makes two stops (Toronto AND New York).
A Single stop will cost you another $100ish:
Puerto Rico (new)
$377 RT Flight San Juan, Puerto Rico -> Boston (Non-Stop) *7/10 Still Alive
Not the cheapest but by far the best flight from Puerto Rico (on JetBlue). If you want to save a few more bucks there are flights from Ponce and Aguadilla for ~$30- $40 less that have more stops.
Getting in on the 4th means you will miss at least some of the first day of practice. Its going to cost an extra $20 ish to hit the whole event as of today.
$339 RT Flight Ponce, Puerto Rico -> Boston *Price Drop 7/10
Here is another solid JetBlue deal, this time with stops (but discounted). Officially JetBlue says you need to check your board but I have had success strapping my deck to my backpack and going all Carry On. If you do end up getting hit with a checked bag fee its $25 (vs. the $50 from Spirit). One stop on the way, two on the way back.
$311 RT Flight Aguadilla, Puerto Rico -> Boston *Price Drop 7/10
As mentioned BQN is an option for a discount, the only catch here is that this one runs on Spirit (ie. you pay more for extra bags IN ADDITION to carry ons). Still worth a look if you are in the Quebradillas area and want to save some drive time avoiding San Juan. One stop on the way, two on the way back.
[$311 4 Day Trip (BQN to BOS) Aug 3 - Aug 7 for Central Mass Skate Festival](https://www.skyscanner.com/transport/flights/BQN/BOS/20170803/20170807
Updates and Additional Cities
Going to keep an eye on the cities above and try to add to them between now and August. So if you don't see something from your local airport yet, that doesn't mean we wont find it.
Here's one more Re-Cap in case you aren't sure you are coming yet.
As always the trips / flights above will go up and down on price. If you see something you like... DO. NOT. WAIT. The best flight deals do not last long.
